Piles

Piles also known as Haemorrhoids. Piles are swollen enlarged veins found in and around the anus and lower rectum.

Types of Piles

Piles are classified into two types depending on their level in relation to anus.

  • They are classified as internal and external piles.
  • Internal piles are further classified into four degrees depending on the symptoms produced.

Internal Piles

External Piles

Depending on the symptoms, Internal haemorrhoids are classified as follows:

  • Grade I : Piles do not prolapse, only bleeding from the rectum is there.
  • Grade II : Piles prolapse upon defecation, but spontaneously reduce.
  • Grade III : Piles prolapse upon defecation, but reduce after manipulation.
  • Grade IV : Piles are prolapsed and remain prolapsed.

Symptoms

  • Pain or itchy swelling around the anus
  • Pain during bowel movements
  • Bleeding during or after bowel movements
  • Irritation and pain around the anus

Causes of Piles

  • Chronic Constipation
  • Chronic diarrhoea
  • Low fiber diet
  • Low intake of water
  • Lifting heavy weights
  • Pregnancy
  • Sitting for long periods of time,in the toilet
  • Straining when passing a stool.
  • Being overweight or obese

Kshara karma

In Ayurveda, Kshara karma method is considered to be the best approach for treating piles Most minor piles can be treated with medication only. No other procedures are needed unless haemorrhoids are severe. Kshara is an alkaline paste used to treat haemorrhoids. The paste is made of herbal blends and has a searing effect. The paste chemically sterilises haemorrhoid.In Ayurveda, this Kshara karma method is considered to be the best approach for treating Piles.

Kshara sutra

Another therapy for piles treatment is Kshara sutra. Kshara sutra uses particular medicated thread to tie piles off at the base. This will allow the piles to shrink over the next 7 to 10 days. This approach will be considered only when other treatments are not effective.

Cauterization or agnikarma

External hemorrhoids can be cauterized using infrared heat. Cauterization will produce some pain. This kind of therapy might require five to six treatments over the same number of weeks before it makes a difference.
